Kete Whakairo - essentially means Kete with pattern.

Well there are pattern on other Kete to but some are simply not possible to create in "normal" Kete - hence the differentiation. Kete Whakairo start their life different to other Kete to - flat on a table and inside out. The final result will only reveal itself at the end when the Kete get's turned literally inside out. They are usually woven in a much finer widht of whenu (strips) so they are by natura mor expensive than Whiri Kete.

Please enjoy these very few examples of kete we created over the last few months. There are many, many more so we will rotate the images on a regular basis - make sure to come back and have  a look at a later stage:-)

Prices range from NZ$ 100 to literally open end for very complicated and delicate ones - on average these will be around NZ$140-$180

For experienced weavers we have also created a "Kete Whakairo tutorial"  that can be found on you tube :
